Glimmers of Hope: One Shower, A New Direction
Sometimes the first meaningful step forward looks surprisingly simple.

Sometimes the first meaningful step forward looks surprisingly simple.
One new client arrived carrying all the visible signs and stereotypes people often associate with total homelessness.
His first step was a shower.
It may sound small, but it was not small for him. That shower opened the door to the next decision. Soon after, he bought a beard trimmer. Then he began trying to sleep better. Little by little, daily habits started shifting.
Now he is working a warehouse job and saving money toward an apartment.
That shower changed more than appearance. It helped create momentum.
Last year, we set a record for the number of showers provided. During the same period, clients also reached record levels in employment goals achieved. We talk about that connection because showers are rare, and clean, safe showers are even rarer.
We have one shower available, but it is located in a different building from our main space. Offering shower access requires scheduling three staff members to be present, which increases labor costs by about fifty percent during that time.
It is not simple to provide, but it remains deeply important because we continue to see what happens when dignity becomes possible again.
A shower can become the beginning of work, savings, and a path out of homelessness.
